Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics.

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates, who have already earned a high school diploma, should have taken the First Cycle Placement Test (YKS), conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). 
Candidates, who have already registered as a student in math department of other universities, could also apply for undergraduate transfer upon the declaration of the department administration.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students, who have passed the Foreign Language Exemption Exam ,can be exempted from must English Course of the undergraduate program.
Transfer students can also be exempted from previous succeded courses after the evaluation of the department administration.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The only responsibility of students is to succeed in courses.
Internship is neither compulsory nor prohibited. Students are free to apply for internship programs in varıous areas.

Profile of The Programme

The Department is one of the leading mathematics and research establishments in Turkey that offers teaching, and academic research methods in mathematics. The faculty members are comprised of internationally respected research scientists, and the department is successful in attracting major grants. The students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to pursue international scholarship programs through Erasmus Student Network. ' Very successful students' with a GPA of higher than 3.00 are offered the change to get a second diploma or certificate in Physics.


Curriculum:

The curriculum consists of three types of courses and the laboratory application.

1. Compulsory courses:
These are courses that students are obliged to take in the program which are made of six major branches of mathematics ( Analysis and the Theory of Functions, Algebra and the Theory of Numbers, Geometry, Topology , Applied Mathematics and Foundations of Mathematics and Mathematical Logic) in 'MAT' codes and major sciences course as physics.

2. Mutual learning courses (compulsory)
Courses that are regulated by the Council of Higher Education of Turkey, in the subclause (i) of the first clause of the 5th article of the 2547, such as Atatürk's Principles and the History of Turkish Renovation, Turkish Language, and Foreing Language courses.

3. Elective courses (in MAT-S codes ):
Courses offered in the program, which are left to student' option. These can be interdisciplinary courses or courses which will expand the students capacities and skills and are offered in the third and fourth year of the curriculum.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Our recent graduates have some positions as teaching and research assistants in distinduished universities of Turkey, the USA and Europa,The graduates can be easily find work in the financial sector, civil service and the graduates completing the pedagogical courses have found jobs in the field of education as mathematics teachers.

Access to Further Studies

Application for master's degree and doctorate in mathematics or related sciences can be made upon completion bachelor of mathematics. Before applying, applicants should have obtained their degrees for ALES and proficiency in foreign languages and will be taken in science and oral exam by the institute. Decision about the applicants will be made considering overall success in those steps.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

To pass a course students have to participate %70 of the lectures and acquire 40 over 100 points in average grade, which is calculated as %40 of mid-terms, assignments and quizzes, and %60 of the final exam. A student can take a make-up exam if a mid-term or the final is missed because of medical conditions.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, students have to complete all courses in the syllabus successfully and have to obtain minimum 2.00/4.00 for Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Students with lower than required CGPA has to re-take some of the classes graded DC or DD.

Facilities

Department has 4 lecture halls, a classroom and an extra seminar room for graduate classes. Also a high-tech computers equipped classroom, for in-class laboratory work and explorations, is available. Department’s academic team consists of 4 professors, 3 associate professors, 9 assistant professors, 1 lecturer, and 4 research assistants.
